So here’s a thought: remember when fields had way fewer bunkers? And I don’t mean decades ago, just a few years back. The middle of the field used to be pretty open, and now it’s packed with all this wild stuff that makes it look more crowded than it really is. Especially with those pins in the center, it almost tricks your eye. But compared to before, we’re definitely playing with a lot more cover out there.

There’s been this idea floating around about going back to those simpler, minimal layouts. I’m not sure that’s the move. Watching the modern game, it feels like players are already more hesitant to move. And if you take away bunkers, all you’re doing is making the gaps bigger. That doesn’t lead to more movement. If anything, it might slow things down even more.

The skill level today is way higher than it used to be. The game has evolved fast over the past 10 years. So just because something worked back then doesn’t mean it fits now. Cutting down the bunker count might sound cool in theory, but in practice, it could just make the game more stagnant.

I don’t have the final answer, but that’s what I’m seeing. What do you think? Would fewer bunkers open things up or just kill the pace? Check out the clip and let me know.
