I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. This might be the best paintball move I’ve ever seen. Alexander Berdnikov steals a teammate’s gun mid-point, jumps into the snake, and just tears the field apart. It’s wild. The whole thing is smooth, creative, and aggressive. And yeah, there’s a random pod that flies off for no reason, but whatever. The move still rules.
After I posted it, a bunch of people in the comments were like, “Isn’t that illegal? I thought you couldn’t touch your teammates.” Which is funny, because I thought that too. We’ve all seen refs at the buzzer yelling not to touch each other, especially when guys run in together. But here’s the thing. I went through the NXL rulebook and couldn’t find anything that actually says you can’t.
What the rulebook does say is that you can’t have intentional or hostile physical contact. You can’t punch anyone, shove a ref, or do anything aggressive like that. But as far as just grabbing a teammate’s marker or tapping someone on the shoulder? It’s not in there. I searched it, and unless I missed something weirdly worded, there’s nothing that bans physical contact between teammates.
And honestly, we’re always touching each other during games anyway. You double up in cans, rub shoulders in the snake, lean into each other in tight spots. It’s not like the field is full of personal space. The refs just don’t want players wiping hits, and that’s fair. But touching your teammate is not the same as cheating.
So yeah, that play was totally legal. And also genius. If you haven’t watched the clip, you should. Then let me know what you think. Smart play or too risky?
