Alright, so MacDev is bringing back the Cyborg. We don’t know if it’s a completely new design or just an updated Cyborg 6, but either way, they’re only making 250 of them. Two hundred are headed to the US, and the other 50 will go international. That’s it. Super limited. Think Dye DLS level limited, but even fewer.
Here’s the twist. If you want to buy one, you had to already buy one of the new Clone GTX guns. No GTX, no Cyborg. It’s basically a loyalty reward, or a gatekeeping move, depending on how you look at it. Kind of like trying to buy a Ferrari and being told you need to already own one.
We do know it’s going to come with a DeadlyWind carbon fiber barrel, which is a solid win. DeadlyWind makes some of the best barrels out there. They’ve built carbon tips for Planet Eclipse markers and have some cool modular systems like the Moab and FX. So even if the marker is a mystery, at least the barrel won’t disappoint.
Now, if this new Cyborg turns out to be a refined version of the Cyborg 6, I’m not mad at that. The ergonomics were great, even if it had some weird issues with its reg system. If MacDev fixed the known problems and kept the feel, this could actually be a great marker. But again, only 250 people are going to get their hands on one.
World Cup is coming up fast, and that’s when we’ll know more. What do you think — should MacDev reinvent the Cyborg or just fix up the 6? Let me know.
